Default engine check light

96 A4 engine check light comes on but car drives just fine; dealer analyzes on computer which indicates faculty temperature sensor; dealer inserts new sensor and light goes off (may have simply reset) but comes back on again after about 25 miles; while dealer is waiting for new sensor to come in car is driven and after a few days light goes out and stayed out until today six weeks later when it came back on again. Any suggestions?? can "bad" gas cause engine check light to come on??

Default Yeah, I think I know what it is

The Audi AESES repair manual (on CD) lists the faulty sensore as G62. The illistration that identifies the sensor points to the blue four prong temp sensor in the coolant pipe behind the right side head. Wrong.

The faulty sensor is actually the NTC, Negative Temperature Coafitant (resistance decreaes with increase in heat) that tells the Motronic Engine Control unit how hot or cold the engine is. It's behind the left cyl head in the coolantpipe and is a white, two prong sensor.

Change it, your problem will be solved.

The sensor they changed (if I'm right, I always am) goes to the inst. cluster temp gauge, A/C clutch cut out w/overheat and.... ah I forget, but nothing to do with engine or check light.
