Default Engine Light On !?

Hi last time i was driving my A4 98 and the Engine light came on,and i don't know why, i discovered that someone took my car (my mom, or sister) fuel up the tank and forgot to put the fuel cap. Right now i don't know what to do, to go take my car to the dealer and clear the codes, or do u guys think something may be wrong with the car?

Go to Autozone and have them scan the code(s). They will do it for free. Loose or missing fuel cap will turn a EVAP code. Make sure cap is tight and then erase code. If it is something else then a more advanced scanner may be necessary.

If it was just caused by the fuel cap being off, the code should clear by itself after a few drive cycles, or so I understand. Having it read and cleared by a scanner is best because you'll know for sure what triggered the CEL. By the way, the last place I'd go is the dealer unless they are good guys and would scan for free. Many of the major auto parts stores will loan tools like code readers.
