Default Engine Speed Sensor tooth missing on Automatic Transmission Flywheel

I was driving the car and all the sudden it stopped, so after I scanned it I got Engine Speed Sensor (G28) No signal. I check the sensor it was knocked out and further inspection I found out that one Speed Sensor tooth was bent, so I straightened as much as I could through the automatic tranny holes in the bottom.

Now the car only hesitates at 6000RPM(feels like its shut off) with the new sensor, so my question is can I place the speed sensor on the engine block location instead of where Audi placed it? I other words where the cam locking tool goes just by the oil pan. I know the VW VR6 uses the engine block G28 Speed sensor location instead of the Automatic Transmission Flywheel.

Car info:
Audi A4 1999 2.8L 5Speed TipTronic

Here is my error code if anyone needs to see:
Address 01: Engine
Control Module Part Number: 4D0 907 551 AH
Component and/or Version: 2.8L V6/5V MOTR AT D01

well if you thinking a dealer to replace for me, thats never gonna happen. Its working to a point for now so if it comes down to replacing it I will do it my self, I will never givemoney away to the shops. But I just wanted to know if I can relocated the speed sensor into engine block location instead of the transmission location.
