For those of you who have been following the saga of integrating an Ericsson LX788 cell phone, the wait continues... but here is an update. I have now confirmed that the Ericsson Vehicle Handsfree Unit HF 7600 DOES NOT support an external antenna.
This makes me wonder if it is worthwhile integrating the Ericsson LX 788 into the handsfree system. One of the major advantages of a handsfree system is the added range and fewer dropped connections which is acheived by using an external antenna.
Now I did find a solution to adding an external antenna, but it is not convenient. Antenna specialists makes an adaptor for the LX 788 that lets you connect an external antenna. (Part number ASPDM1945/CP) Each time you drop the phone in the craddle you have to unscrew the stubby antenna and screw in the adaptor cable. A pain not worth having! I thought of modifying this adaptor cable, but what a pain. And if I fry my phone then it really wasn't worth it.
I like the sleekness and small size of the Ericsson LX788, but it may be that it is just not worth the hassle of integrating the handsfree system without the benefit of the external antenna.
Another consideration for me is that my wife has the Nokia 6100 phone and if I switch to this phone and install the Nokia handsfree system then in the rare event that we switch cars, she will be able to just drop her phone into my cars cradle and be handsfree.
I haven't yet decided what I am doing. I just wanted to give you the update and let you know that I am putting it on the back burner for now. Sorry
