I have a 99.5 A4 1.8TQ and I've been noticing for a while that the boost from the turbo seems kinda moody... there seems to be times during WOT where it doesn't feel like the turbo is kicking in (feels like a very "linear" acceleration... no turbo slingshot effect). I've noticed this both with a 1bar chip and without... also, a coupla days ago, I noticed a high pitched whistling sound coming from the car, which stayed on even while cruising... (it sounded like the sound of the turbo spooling up, but the sound just stayed on). However, I haven't heard the sound since that day... so basically, I'm wondering if this sounds like it could be the cause of a failing wastegate rod? Or worse yet, a failing turbo? Anyone know what else might cause these symptons? Thanks in advance for any help!
