in my 1999.5 A4 2.8 Q
so for some reason there is an ethernet port built into the inside of my arm rest, not a phone port but the bigger one for internet. i was wondering if anyone else has one and what it does, i pluged a laptop into it but that didn't do anything and i asked a tech and the dealership but he didn't know.

Go back to the dealer, or you can pick it up at any local SAT internet place it's a small receiver that goes on the end of the antenna, sort of looks like a small sat. dish. Yes sounds funny, but it's not too noticeable really at all.
You will need to subscribe to the service through Audi as nobody else has it. But if you go to the dealer and get the receiver you can sign up right there too. One stop shopping really. It's only like $45 for the receiver/antenna and about $15 a month for access.
Some dealers are clueless about this so if they say they don't have it, keep on them, make them look it up, they'll find it and get you going........ hope this helps, tell them the guys @ AudiWorld verified it, they set you up.
