Default ETKA part number question (relay)

P/N: 443 951 253 J

In my ETKA, it's superceded by 8D0 951 253. However, when I went to the VW dealer for a replacement for my 443 951 253 J, they gave me a 7M0 951 253 A. Doesn't the '7' just mean it's a VW part and it should be interchangable with Audis?

If this relay (load reduction relay) isn't it, when what's causing all my electrical gremlins? (No low-beams, no fan, no wipers, etc)

I'm pullin' out my hair here driving without headlights/wipers/air. >:-|

Default if they say its superceded, then its the right part.

the first three digits of any part nubmer have to do with the car/platform it was developed for. it has nothing to do with signifying whether its a vw or audi part.

Default ... usually.

I had a bad supercession on a part I ordered from WorldImpex. Was looking for one of the snap-in tabs for the underhood insulation. They sent me what the computer told them was the supercession which turned out to be a plastic screw.

Emailed them and they sent a replacement which was the same plastic screw.

Contacted them again and they said it was a bad supercession in the computer and sent me the original p/n that I asked for (which was the correct part).

Impex was great through the whole process but it just illustrates that part supercession isn't 100% accurate.

Default The relay plugs in correctly, but doesn't get warm or anything, for that matter.

Hence my still dead electrical components.

Default 443 did get superceded to 8D0-951-253 as you said and I've been

going through the wiring diagrams and ETKA looking for any kind of common connection that could be causing this.

The only common link I found between the headlights, wipers, and air is the J59 relay mentioned above and the ignition/starter switch. Otherwise, there are various fuses you can check ranging from 5A to 15A. Might also want to check the large fuses above the PDB and in the ECU black box.

Default Where exactly is the J59 relay?

Or is J59 just another way of saying 8D0-951-253? A little confused here.

I'm at work, which means no Bentley/Haynes.

And what does PDB stand for? *scratching head*

Default Sorry. The load reduction relay you are trying to replace is referred to as J59 in the diagrams

PDB = Power Distrubiton Block

Where all the power posts, fuses, and relays are behind the knee bolster.

Default Ahhh... different terminology. Yeah, gonna go back and double check everything...

...on my lunch break.

The J59/8D0-951-253 was replaced to no avail yesterday. At least the VW dealer is close...

That same relay is used in several other locations as well (12V/60A relay). Good luck!

Default Just found two more of the relays that look burnt on the metal tabs.

Those are supposedly the ones controlling the electric cooling fan, which I've had some issues with lately. I wonder why...

All made in Ireland!
