Ever heard of the Extended Warranty pgm by MBPI...???
Hi all,
I have just recieve a rather suspicious flyer from the "Consumer Automative Consultants marketing for MBPI" . They have a program (for cars < 60,000 miles) that offers extended coverage on the car for six additional years or 100,000 miles. The fishy thing about this flyer is that one has to call this agency between 5/11 & 5/17 @ 1-800-200-1505. THe offer is valid only between 5/11 & 5/17
Any thoughts
Kandiah
97 A4

Try AAA extended warranty
I got an extended warranty on my 98.5 A4 1.8t from AAA. It covers essentially bumper to bumper for 7 years/ 100,000 (from purchase of car, not warranty) with zero deductible. If you buy it within the first year / 12,000 miles it's around $1400 ($1100 for the nonturbo 2.8). You can purchase it anytime up till 4 years / 50,000 for an additional $50 or $100. Major benefit for me was reliability of insurer since it's being offered under the AAA umbrella.
Hope this helps.
Just for your info, similar AAA extended warranty on car like honda civic is only $500.

Re: Try AAA extended warranty
Daniel,
I called my local AAA office after reading your post. I too have a 98.5 1.8t and am interested in the peace of mind offered by an extended warranty. Unfortunately, my local AAA office did not have this type of program. Could you give me more info about it, specifically the contacts at AAA that I should call. Thanks in advance.
Paul C.

You want to bet ...
this offer will be good whenever you happen to call? How did they get your name - dealer or lender?
I get these on my cars just as the manufacturer's warranty ends, just to cover catastrophic stuff like engine/tranny/radiator. But I suppose that since they cost around $1,000 you could put that into a mutual fund instead and wait and see if you need it. Check out the classifieds in any issue of Autoweek, you'll see several companies that sell these warranties.

is this a named component only policy or does it cover all factory installed orig. eqpt., wear & tear, etc.?
That's a critical distinction. Some, like Warranty Gold (Edmunds) cover everything on the car at delivery: that's what you want. Contracts with only named assemblies, etc., are much more risky and porous and may not cover wear & tear (Edmunds does), etc.
