I have a stock 97 A4 2.8 and I've noticed a couple of things lately that have me wondering if maybe part of the exhaust system needs to be replaced. The first symptom is I can hear a fluttering sound coming from the exhaust if I have my window down. It's not too loud, but noticeable, as if I have a hole in my exhaust somewhere. I haven't had time to check the underside of the vehicle yet, but will do so soon.
The second symptom is, but may be totally unrelated, when I am in 2nd shifting into 3rd or in 3rd and shifting into 4th after letting out on the clutch and while pressing down on the accelerator for the first second or two the engine seams to lag a little. It does this rapidly kinda like the car wants to die, but not that severely. I was thinking it could be exhaust related. I have no idea. Anyone experience any of these symptoms before? If so what was your car's problem?
