Default Exhaust joint advice please.

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/46506/photo0428.jpg"></center><p>Hi guys,

while under the car last weekend changing the intermediate silencer i noticed something else wrong with the exhaust system.

the is a joint from the down pipe where it joins the cat, it has a woven metal surround and it has come away on the end that joins the cat.

My question is, what do i need? the guys at the shop started saying i would need a new down pipe and then went on to mention a new cat.

As far as i can see the Cat, manifold and down pipe are in good condition, but not that joint.

Please advise.

thanks guys,

Deak

Default first time i paid exhaust shop to weld on a new joint ...

$110 parts and labor.. second time i repaired the joint on the other side myself by welding it back together.. for about 20c of welding rods.. you dont need all of what they are saying... they just want your money..

Default Audi only sells the flex joint as apart of the down pipe for a couple hundred

If you can find a universal flex joint, its easy enough to weld on.

Any exhaust shop can weld a new flex joint on for you.

Default i was contemplating a new system, however......

Now i have done the intermediate section, the rest of it is in good condition...apart fromt he joint.

It's only a 1600cc so seems silly paying out for a 'preformance' exhaust. if i want more preformance i should really get a bigger engine (a new car).

I just want it to run right and sound right. plus looking on borla's site they only do the system for the 2.8 A4

but thanks for your suggestion.

Default Thanks everyone....

I will take it in to the exhaust centre this weekend and see if they can weld a new joint on.

I wanted to do it myself, but doesn't seem feasible. i'll see what the pro's say.

thanks again everyone.

really fast and good feedback.

cheers
