Default Exhaust options....

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/36397/garage.jpg"></center><p>
I am looking into exhaust now that I have my wheels and suspension on the way. I am never going to go bigger than a K04, and I am currently 1.0 bar chipped. Is a Milltek too big, is a Borla too small? Is the Milltek good enough to justify the added expense. Nearly 300 more than the borla. What about APR. Middle of the two with the 2.5. So I am really lost. I want a complete exhaust with new DP, but I do not want to over buy for what I need. Additionally I have a remus on my Jetta, and I love it. I want to do something different and maybe a little more subtle, but not too queit. How is the sound of the three. (Side note, I have had a good experience with AWE, any probs with Strat, or APR?)

1. Borla

2. Milltek

3. APR

So again, size, sound, and anything else you care to offer. TIA!

Default Milltek and APR will be a little quieter than your criteria suggests you want.

The 'new' Borla is likely a very good fit for performance, sound and $$$ for you, IMO.

Default i would'nt go bigger than 2.5"...

you will lose back pressure. i have an apr exhaust which i got used (3000 miles). I love it. quiet enough you don't notice it all of the time, but sounds a lot better than stock. i used to have the sandblaster borla and HATED it. i don't know how great the new one is. you could always go the custom route. try looking for magnaflow mufflers. then all you would need is the flex piping. Just some ideas.

Good luck.

Default I had the borla and now have a milltek...

Despite some complaints here, I never had a problem with the Borla and it had a nice balance between deep sound and sound under WOT and yet not droning too much. Don't know much about the newest generation tho.

The milltek (admittedly also with a big turbo now in my car) is appreciably louder under throttle, tho not much more at idle. It is not a noisy exhaust (e.g. scorpion, from what I've read here)? No. Is it worth the extra money? If I didn't have the bigger turbo I'd say no. Note that some people have 2.75 millteks but mine is 2.5 and I think that is currently the standard size...(?).

Enjoy.

Default FYI, The MTM is a 3" !!!

But of course their software is designed to make use of it (ir not run too lean).

Its the DP you need to be worried about. If your keeping your Ko3, I believe the DP replacement is marginal. If your going Ko4 +, then yes change it.

IF you do your DP, be aware you'll move your torque curve up the rev's. ie the Torque will come in later. Some people dont like this, as you tend to have to rev it more, and change gears more. Depends what your looking for.

At what size do you begin to loose low end power.

I would say its progressive.

The DP makes teh most change though.

the Milltek normally comes with a 2.5" which for a K03 is quite a large DP.

I took my off, and replaced with the stock DP. When I Ko4, I'll put it back on.

Default That is my other question...

what is the factory dia. and what is too big. There are oodles of people with chipped K03 cars on VWVortex with 3in dp and exhaust. Is that too big. I always thought it was, and around here it sounds so. But around there the bigger the better. I think that forum is a lot more "ricey" than this one. That is why I post here.
