Default exhuast

my exhuast broke off at the flex pipe and they threw it away at the shop. i want to know if i can just weld a pip to the flex pipe b5 1.8t

The flex pipe is designed to compensate for for engine/gearbox movement and should be replaced. There are vendors who sell a universal flex pipe section that can be welded in place on the pipe. Since the pipe failed, you might also want to ensure the engine mounts are still good as they can allow increased engine movement when failed.

what bout using str8 pipe to the exhuast? does that have to be welded

I think the flex pipes rusting and breaking are common. Both of mine have rusted. I fixed one with my flex welder and had the muffler shop replace one for $116. waiting for the other one to go now. I have had more trouble wiuth the barrel clamps. not that they don't stay tight they leak..
