extra 2 hours of labor for tb update with water pump?

Once I had the belt off my 2.8 the water pump was 9 bolts out, pump out, new pump in, 9 bolts in

Default If they're gonna completely flush the system and bleed it too, I could see the possibility of 2 hour

If they're just gonna swap it and top off the coolant, then F that.

Default The 2.8 pump is in a totally different location. You need to take the TB off to change it.

The 1.8T (2000 and older) can have the the WP changed independently of the TB. The 2001 1.8T had a new design where the TB drove the WP and was integrated into the block similar to the 2.8.

Uh.. I had to take off the TB to change my water pump on my 98 1.8T

Default Well you didn't have to. I have a 99.5 and our engines are practically identical.

The waterpump is on the side. However, the difference is that you would need to remove the PS bracket that pins the pump. How do I know? I did it both ways.

Default That's because you changed the impeller only. You need to pull that sprocket...

off to get access to the bolt and gain clearance.

If you change the entire pump housing, it comes off from the side and you don't need to remove that sprocket.
