Re: Just pull up. The clips will give eventually.
there are 2 part for each cup holder, i put out one part, and the other part is still there?
i will put my cellular phone and corn holder there.

If you take out the center console, there are a couple of screws holding the cup holders in.
There's a FAQ on how to remove the center console in the tech section.

I know, the ones next to the parking brake. Here's the removal procedure:
I have a '97 too. The only cup holders are next to the parking brake. By center console I mean the console covering the tranny tunnel. I removed it a few months ago to clean the cup holders because they we stuck due to spilled Cokes (from the previous owner I promise). The details are a little foggy, but this should be 95%:
Basic Procedure:
-Take off parking brake handle. Pull tab out on underside of handle, and it will slide off.
-Remove Parking brake cover.
-Remove the screw on each side of tranny tunnel at the front of the console. Gain access by setting front seats at farthest back position.
-Remove back ashtray to expose other screws. Remove them. There are 3.
-That's about it. You'll need to disconnect the mobile phone line once you begin to lift the console out.
Once out, flip it over. The front part of the cup holders slide into a tab in the console. The back part is attached with 2 screws. Remove them, and the cup holder assembly will come out.
I soaked the assembly in hot, soapy water and cleaned it real well with a toothbrush. Now it actually works.
