Default Fault code: Knock Sensor 2 G 66 signal too low

Hello,

My VAG-Com is reporting the following DTC on my '98 1.8T:

"Knock Sensor 2 G66
Signal Intermittent
Signal too low."

Can anyone offer any advice on this? Does a faulty knock sensor affect boost?
Where is the g 66 located on the engine block? And what's a good source for a new/used unit other than the dealer?

Thanks in advance for any help. Please, no comments to the effect that I can look this all up in Bentley's. I'll be getting my manual next week.

Thanks,

Jeff in Boston

Default I lost one of my knock sensors years ago

boost should stay the same, timing will not advance under boost past 0 or top dead center. So the car will feel slep under boost. It's about a $70 part and an hour or less of labor depending on which sensor it is. There is one under the intake manifold around cylinder 2 or 3, and then another towards the back of the motor under the intake manifold.

Default Be careful with the Bentley diagrams - they are incorrect for KS1 & KS2.

G66 = KS2 which is really #19 in the picture a few posts below. I replaced KS1 a few months ago and it was in location #20 on my ATW engine.

My car has Green (KS1) and Blue (KS2) sensors. Colors are confirmed in Bentley wiring diagram #79/4. I found the right plug and followed the wire to determine the correct location.
