Double Half Cap

I've seen some of you talk about this in the previous posts. I just picked up MY 01 yesterday and noticed low buzzing noises in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears at around 2700-2900 rpm. The noise only lasts for one split second. I've done an archive search and some of you have had similar engine noises. Is this normal and will it go away after break in? Other than this, the car kicks butt!! Thanks for introducing monthly car payments to my life :-)

Same symptoms with mine....I did a printout of that engine FAQ and took it to the dealership. They put in the appropriate parts and the buzzing sound is gone. Don't know if it'll go away after you put miles on the car though.

Would I just tell the dealer to take care of it before I take ownership or do I have to wait for the symptoms to occur.<p>cessna_Joe

I had that problem on my '98, and had the fix done (I'm the writer of the FAQ). I was under the impression that more recent Audis did not have this problem. I'm glad it worked for you too!

By the way , in my experience the noise did not get better with mileage. It did strongly correlate with ambient temperature (gone in the winter, fairly common in the summer).

It appears that the problem I had (on my '98) was quite rare (but not totally unusual). If you don't have the noise, count your blessings and enjoy.
