A Few Questions....

1. Air Conditioning - We had the A/C on in the car yesterday, as it was quite warm in NJ, and everything worked fine. I got into my car this morning, and it was pretty foggy and humid outside, so I went to turn on the A/C. I turned it down to 68 degrees and it was not blowing cold air, so I turned it down even further, still no cold air. The temperature reading outside was 58 degrees. Is there some point that you cannot turn the A/C on? Yesterday when it was working, it was 72 degrees outside. Am I doing something wrong? I read the manual, and it seems that there are no restrictions.
2. Does anyone know why the Passat GLX comes with the memory seats, and the 2.8 does not? I can't figure out why a more expensive cousin of the Passat doesn't have this feature, nor does it have rain sensing wipers, and a few other things. I know the A4 has features the Passat doesn't have, but the memory seats are definitely something I can't understand.

if there is no snowflake on the display, then the compressor is not on. Simply press "auto" or the snowflake button. On the other hand, if the snowflake is illuminated, they you might have a mechanical problem.

The 99.5's with the new console and "A6-esque" cupholder and AC controls do not have a snowflake. They have an ECON button which switches the compressor OFF. The compressor will otherwise always be on if outside temp and thermostat setting allows it.
Why does the Passat have memory seats and the A4 doesn't? Because the Passat is a newer design, with many A6 features. The Passat also has under-door puddle lights, the light switch on the dash, downward side mirror on reverse, refrigerated glove box, and substantially more legroom. It also had the A6-style visor mirrors at least a year before the 99.5 A4's finally got them. Why was there no GLX Syncro for the 98 or 99 model year? Because it would have destroyed A6 sales, being basically the same car. True, the A4 is aimed at a sportier market, with the sport package, sport seats, and tip steering wheel available, none of which are available on the Passat (though I saw sport seats listed on some option lists.)
