So guys, i need to know. That very fine mesh in the air filter box, the one through which air passes before passing through the air filter. Can i do without it? the meshing is so fine its obvious thats its a big restriction to air flow. Now i know that its probably there to stop large grains of sand and dust from getting to the filter and tearing it, but the thing is, i have a K&N filter and those things are pretty resilient compared to the standard paper filters, heck they even have a built in wire mesh of their own. So, i'm thinking i should remove that net to further improve air intake. Would appreciate some input on the matter. BTW 00" A4 2.8l

i have removed it in all my Audi/VWs.... never had a problem, except i had to clean the K&N more frequently... i felt it gave a mild improvement in throttle response.
