Default Finally!

After nearly 2 months my pistons finally came in. Thanks to Phil (QFrog) for hooking me up with the specs on these.

These have so much more dish than the stock 1.8t pistons, it's hard to tell in the pics, though.

Wiseco's coatings aren't nearly as nice as Swain's, but they should do the job.

Off to the shop they go...

Default When you say Wiseco's coatings aren't nearly as nice are you comparing performance or

looks ?

Default looks...

The ceramic coating on the dome is very thin and you can see through it in several spots. There's a few small spots where it was scratched off. Makes me think it (the coating) won't last very long. Swain's coating is much thicker. It would have been a lot more money, though.

Default I always thought the true coating impregnated itself into the piston itself and

what you see will very quickly disappear from both the crown and the black molybdenum coating on the skirts....but the "real deal" is there... doing it's job.

Or am I high on caffeine ?

I don't understand what the coating is on the crown. Does each company do something differently ?

Default These are both permanent coatings, not break in coatings

This quote isn't from Wiseco, but from Swain, who offers a similar permanent ceramic coating:

"protects against high temperature oxidation, eliminates hot spots, and encourages proper flame travel. The ceramic also spreads the heat evenly over the entire coated surface reducing detonation, pre-ignition and allowing the use of lower octane fuel. Less heat is conducted through the wrist pins and rods keeping the crank, bearings, oil and entire bottom end cooler."

And for the skirts, again from swain, but also permanent:

"In addition to power being lost through heat, power is also lost due to excessive friction. Poly Molyâ„¢ has
an extremely low coefficient of friction, reduces scuffing caused by piston movement and provides back-up lubrication if your primary lubrication fails or has gone beyond its load limits.

Unlike the simple "break in" skirt coatings that are now being offered
by piston manufacturers and OEM's, Poly Molyâ„¢ is designed to be a permanent solid film lubricant coating."

Default Ah.. then you have nothing to worry about and pat yourself on the back for saving cash....

Because, whether or not the visible "money-shot" coating wears away, the metal is protected both top and sides.
