Forward gears work lots better, reverse is a no go, makes a weird whirring sound (bad pump maybe). Off to the yard to find another DDT.

No DDTs at the two yards I was able to visit. Will try more this week. I scanned the car and came up with these. Could the 1st one be related to the lack of reverse and weird sound?
Address 02: Auto Trans
Controller: 8D0 927 156 BM
Component: AG5 01V 1.8l5VT USA 8508
Coding: 00000
Shop #: WSC 00000
2 Faults Found:
65535 - Internal Control Module Memory Error
00-10 - - - Intermittent
00526 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
27-00 - Please Register/Activate
The second one is just a brakelight code. I looked at some of the real time data, and I can see the ECU thinking the trans is in R, 1, and R but neutral never occurs. When it is in neutral it acts like it is in drive. Ideas? Thanks.

The transmission controller only knows where the shifter handle is by the multifunction switch, F125 it is called on the schematic. I would guess that the switch is bad, or the connector(s) are not making good contact. I suppose that you could try disconnecting the electrical connectors (multifunction switch and solenoids/sensors) and see if you get reverse in limp-mode. If no, would think that this confirms an internal mechanical problem.

Really good idea to see if it is an internal issue! Where is the multifunction switch plug on the transmission? Is it the main circular bundle of cable?
Of note, I put it in Park, and vag-com see's it in P yet it acts like it is in Drive only slipping... In Drive gears it does move forward. No, PRND are not all lit up. I really appreciate the help.
