Default First post! Magnetic transmission drain plug - opinions?

I've been lurking here for a while and very much enjoy reading the forum. Finally ready to start fixing up the car. Want to change the transmission fluid (5-speed manual) and noticed some places (ecs tuning for one) selling this replacement plug meant to trap metallic bits. Anyone try this? First gear is a bit noisy so maybe add some lubro moly? Thanks for your replies.

typically cars with auto tranny have magnets in the oil pan.

Default I'm not too worried about that and even a badly neglected tranny/diff

after 133K didn't seem to have too many metal traces. Seems to be unnecessary to me.

Default You have 2 magnetic plus in your manual trans already... clean them out when you change fluid...

First is the drain plug near the front of the trans, the second is a plastic plug held in place by a circlip thats at the tail of the trans, in the torsen differential casing. Both will have shavings sticking to it.

Lubro-Moly is fine of course... also consider a mix of Redline MTL/Redline MT90 2:1... That's what several of us run.

Default Lubro-Moly I hear jsut precipitates out and collects in the bottom. My neighbor

showed me a few VW & Brit car/bike pans where it was all collected at the bottom. So if it would stay in the oil it would be worthwhile I guess. Or is there evidence that it does stay suspended?

Default I think he means the Lubro-Moly gear oil... do they make trans fluids?

<a href="http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pagebuild_v2.cgi?make=Audi&engine=1.8T&model=B5%20 A4&submodel=Quattro&category=Maintenance&subcatego ry=Transmission">This stuff...</a> I'd stick with the Redline oils personally.
