Default Flashing CEL, Cylinder 2 Misfire, advice needed...

This past Saturday I was accelerating up a short hill and as I crested the hill the CEL started flashing. I pulled over immediately and shut the car off. Last night a fellow forums member stoped by with his Vagcom to help me see what codes are being thrown (many thanks to Enigmagic).

Car: 98.5 A4 2.8QMV

Codes:

16684 - Multiple Random Misfire
16686 - Cylinder 2 Misfire

I did a bit of research on the forums and narrowed down the possible causes to spark plugs, coil packs and possibly the ignition control module? I am new to the 2.8 20v world so any help would be greatly appriciated!

Thanks!

Default Pull the plugs - and look at them

First you did not provide any info:
1. Mileage
2. mileage on plugs, wires, etc

I had a message like that - turned out I had oil from the oil fill that had dripped on the wire.

Mileage: 94,000
Mileage on plug and wires: Unknown, we did pull a couple of the plugs before I purchased the car in October, they were fine then.

Default OK

Your wires are probably orginal.

Pull the #2 plug and look at it.

BTW - flashing means not to drive

It's possible, but I doubt it. I only drive my car on the weekends and I have had the same tank for a few weeks now.

The flashing CEL is always an automatic "safely pull over right now" kind of situation.

Nope. It sits under a car port.

It sits outside with a covered parking? Or a carport like garage with a door to close?
