Default folks with squeaky front suspensions(1) and gas problems(2)?

some fyi - i spoke with the dealer again this morning. wanted to ask him more about what he did with the servicing yesterday...

(1) he did confirm that the squeaking was coming from the brakes! he said that the brake pads were causing the squeaks whenever i went over bumps and such. by disassembling them, regreasing, and then readjusting the pads, it apparenty fixes the problem... he did say that they've been doing that to other cars, and it fixes the problem... anyone else have the same experience?

(2) on the way to work today, i noticed that going at 65mph, my rpm was 3100. at 75mph, it was 3250-3300. it's usually around 3500 at 75mph. so, i ask the dealer this. he says that they recalibrated the ecu - something about resetting full throttle to 5 volts. now, does this mean that because of this recalibration, i use less fuel? my rationale is that i used to have rpms of about 3500 going 75mph, and now, it's like 3250 at the same speed. this means better fuel economy, right? if you have your ecu recalibrated, let me know your results!

Default I don't think re-calibrating the throttle can account for a change in gearing..

the only way to change the rpm vs. mph is to change gearing on a manual transmission car. IF it turns X rpm @ 50mph, it will ALWAYS turn X rpm @50. if this changes, something is likely wrong with the speedo, tach, or something else.

Default Your dealer is in need of some education.

Your rpms are fine; the recalibrating (throttle adapt) has no bearing as to the gearing relationship. I turn 3800 at 80 mph, as does everyone here, unless they changed their rolling diameter with a wheel/tire upgrade. The 1.8's have ridiculously low gearing, even in 5th.

While possible that the pads are squeaking over bumps, this has never been reported on the forums.

Default greasing the pads?

just be sure to give your pads a good coat of wax before you grease them

Maybe put anti-seize on the backing plates, but grease? how odd.
