Default Follow-up question on re-installing spark plugs.....

...I was doing a search of the archives, and I saw a post stating that spark plugs should not be reinstalled once they've been in the car. This is due to the crush washer. Any truth to this?

If I reinstall the plugs that are in there now (only 3,000 miles on them), will I have problems with them loosening over time?

Default Could be some truth to that, but if it were really true, how would us old schoolers get readings

off the plugs? I used to have my plugs out of my Corrado weekly to blast the carbon off them, and I never had one loosen.

You should be fine.

Default Sounds reasonable to me.....

...hate to waste money on new plugs if they're not really needed.

I think I'll add my anti-sieze, reinstall the plugs and then check then retorque them after a few hundred miles.

Default Re: Follow-up question on re-installing spark plugs.....

After fouling plugs in my bike after adding an exhaust system I took the plugs out three times and had to clean them till i got the jetting correct. I have never had a plug come loose. Just put them at the proper torque..they will not loosen up.

Default Yes, there is a crush washer (as you stated) that is good for one time only!

If you look at it and it has a not been fully compacted, it may work. Just don't over tighten.

Good luck,

Peter
