Default Friend got ticket for having expired sticker and insurance went up 3 points!

This is in MA. Is this a common thing or do only some insurance companies do this?

I know, it's just unreasonable for insurance to go up over a document. No claim, no increase

Default Have your friend call the insurance company...

There has to be some mistake...either they assigned points when they shouldn't have, they assigned points for another violation (possibly out of state), or MA has some wierd legislation that allows insurance companies to rape people like this.

In MA a ticket for a missed inspection counts as a moving violation... and therefore points.

Default Somebody should challenge that in court...

Legislators have a nack for creating this kind of muck! I doubt you would see any of the other 49 states (except maybe CA) interpret the condition of the vehicle as a moving violation. Furthermore, the point system is largely used in determining insurance premiums...it's quite a stretch to correlate an expired inspection to driving habits, and the likelihood that the insurance company would have to pay out more to insure that particular driver.
