So I ordered a replacement front left CV axle from PureMS, to hopefully solve my highway crab-walking issues...and I'm not quite sure what I've got. All tech writeups dealing with front CV repair/axle R&R seem to be oriented towards replacing the boot and dealing with the CV joint itself, not simply installing a new axle.
My axle came in an "OP Parts" box with two tubes of grease and a cork gasket. I'm wondering what to lubricate.
Here's what I have:

The boots are held on with metal clamps. They do not look like they are meant to be undone.
Do I just need to lubricate the axle spindle, and the race/bearings on the inner CV joint, or do I need to remove those boots and lubricate inside of them? I am not sure if they are packed with grease or not.
Do I need to remove the circlips securing the race/bearing and seperate that whole assembly in order to lubricate it?

The boot will separate from the joint itself.
Then you can fill the boot with grease, and lube those exposed *****.
The outers will be greased and completely sealed.

pretty sure there's a DIY here on AW that covers what you need to remove the whole axle. it's really not that hard of a job. i've done it twice now so feel free to email me if you have any questions.

You will need these very long extesnions from Harbor Freight. and triple sqaure bits and the big allen for the axle bolt.

i didn't undo the lower CA to get mine out, just the uppers which aren't too bad. if you're in a rusty state, soak everything overnight in pblaster.
n the inside youll undo all of the 3sq [6 or 8 of them] bolts that hold the inner axle to the tranny. i gently clamped the axle shaft w/ a vise grip to keep it from spinning when undoing the bolts. the only tricky bit was keeping the little cork gasket in place while lining up the greasy axle end. takes a bit of fiddling. gl..

otherwise it can be a pain. PB Blaster should help. I had to use many, many hammer blows to get it out. If you have as much trouble as it did, buy an extra pinch bolt before you begin. I had to grind mine down to get it through the holes. Again, may only be an issue if you have your car from northern, salty climates. Good luck!
