I have a squeaking noise coming from the front right wheel. I thought it was the coilover so I lubed it up but it is gettin worse. It is happening when I turn the steering wheel and also when I hit bumps. Any suggestions on what to check. It is a 99.5 2.8 Q. Thanks

On my '97 it turned out to be the outer ball joints on the control arms. Audi has four of them on each side, three mounted with the spherical joint positioned above the lube boot. I checked just by jacking up the front and grabbing the front wheel, wiggling it for play on the steering axis. Boy, did I have some, the front upper deflecting about an eigth of an inch in its socket. I tore it apart and found three of the four were shot, with only the lower rear still okay, and that's the one that is "right side up." But it had a torn Boot! Bottom line, my sqweeking noise, turning and under vertical displacement was the lower front arm but they all need to be replaced, along with the wheel bearing (75mm for my 1.8; yours are bigger). Good luck. If you do your own work get in touch with AutohausAz for the right price on the parts.
