Front passenger seat (manual) won't tilt and slide forward for rear passengers to get in the back

Got a 2-door 1.8 UK Audi and the passenger front seat (manual) won't tilt and slide forward to allow rear passengers to get in the back. This is the lever on the side of the backrest facing the passenger door. When you move it all the way up, the seat should tilt forward and slide a short way so people can get in the back.
Any ideas on what the problem could be and what I can do to go about fixing this? The lever had been giving me probs over the last few weeks, you'd have to lift it up and really push quite hard on the back of the seat to make it tilt and slide forward. This got progressively worse until it reached the point now where it doesn't move at all.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Unfortunately those seats sound different from the A4s. Our manual fronts have forward-rear adjustment by a lever at the front and angle adjustment by a **** on the outside side of the seat.

https://forums.audiworld.com/9080/
