Default Front spkr install direction, Crutchfield says 4" comps. won't work, bracket req'd for even bottom

speaker. Sounds fishy compared to search results on forum. Advice appreciated, looking to DIY 4" components in front doors of non-Bose '98.5 stock system. Also, if doing components, simple splice, plug & play, or is relocation of new crossover necessary? Looking at Polk EX2540 4" comps.

Crutchfield's reply:
Thanks for your e-mail, and for shopping the Crutchfield web site.

In answer to your question about replacing the factory speakers in your front doors, unfortunately, it looks like only the 4" models will fit in that location. Also, you will need to fabricate a mounting bracket for the installation. Sorry I don't have better news for you there.

They are an odd size. 4.5" I believe. My Eclipse were direct fit.

Default I don't understand, Crutchfield said 4" WILL fit - that's what's in there now...

If you want to go bigger, say to 5-1/4, you'll need adapters - MBQuart makes them.

I just took 5 1/4" seperates out of my 2000 doors, fit just fine with a custom adapter.

Ditto. I put 5.25 Infinity Kappa components in my '98 front doors using the MB Quart adapters.

Made my own out of wood. 4" speakers are useless for acurate sound reproduction.
