I show a pn 4B0 498 625
75mm bearing retail for $109, price at $60, not in stock.
Replacing the front requires a press or similar type tool. I've done one years ago on my jetta using a tool for Schley. Not sure if the same tool pertains on the A4, but it sure looks like it would work.

Probably more cost effective to take the whole upright out, down to a local shop, and have them use a press to take out, and put in the new bearing.
I rented that Schley tool from someone years ago.
You might be able to find a place to rent it from. I'd check with the VW shops first, like AUtotech, or Techtonics.

Here comes the barrage of questions... :-)
The symptoms I've described are what you experienced? I noticed in one of your pics you were able to pinpoint the "play"....how were you able to tell?
Hubshark....did you buy it? Where'd ya get it? Looks like a $400 tool, ouch. Still have it...I'd rent it from you (if I decide to do the work myself). :-)
About how long did it take you per side? Were you following any sort of install guide, or just by the seat of your pants?
Thanks in advance..
Andy

anyway, that is a good way to check for a wheel bearing. if you don't think its the bearing, and you can't figure out what it is, give me a call and I can go for a ride.
you can take the bearings to get them pressend into the hub, but you may be able to rent a press from somewhere like Autozone or taylor rentals.
email me if you need any help, I'm doing the front main seal and rear output shaft seal today, YIPEE! ugh....
