Default Fuel Gauge Update: So I put in the new "used" cluster yeterday....

and it looks ok. I go to the gas station and fill up, and hence, it's exactly the same. I drive 5 miles, and my gauge says I've used 1/4 tank of gas. ARGH! On top of that, there are a bunch of bulbs blown in this one, hence you can't see anything at night!

I turn on the car this morning, and the gauge works? wtf. I fill up again, and all is steady and seeming to work fine. Could it be the new sender was jammed and now is ok? If so, I'm going to put my original cluster back in. If the gauge works, I'm golden. If not, then the used one needs to go back, which it is, and I have to find another one.

Moving parts are a pain in the ***! I also have the sneaking suspsicion that gauges really can't go bad if they still work somewhat, it has to be the sender. Otherwise my gauge would show F or E at all times.

End of rant.

Sounds more like a sender problem, not the gauges...

Why did you replace the cluster?

Default I had replaced the sender and filter, and saw no change...

next thing to do was replace the cluster.

Default I would think it's an issue with the sender.

I haven't inspected the assembly, so I can't give you specific advice...but it does seem like the sender is your issue.

Default I'm thinking the same thing, maybe just got a bumb sender...

or it just started working. Shop is taking back the used sender, no questions asked, so that's good. Now I just have to put the original back in and hope it works.

RKA, you on any of the messengers?

Default oh, ok, well I'm going to put the original back in, hopefully all is OK...

if not, I'll have Shokan send me another sender.
