I know of the problems A6s have had with their fuel senders. After experiencing similar problems with my A4, I searched the archives. It appears that several A4 owners on AW have also experienced this issue. One poster mentioned a "recall" applicable to his A4. Anyone know what he is referring to, as my dealer was clueless?

Basically, their is a problem with the fuel gaguge and the sending unit in the tank that causes the fuel gauge to read incorrectly. In my circumstance, due to the fact that my wife failed to fill up the car because the gauge read 1/2 full while the car was actually out of gas, it did cause the car not to start. The best part was being treated like a moron by the dealership after they filled it with gas. Of course, they didn't believe me when I told them that the gauge read 1/2 full. Gotta love that AOA service!

I ran the tank lower than usual, at least 20 miles after the warning came on, filled up and wouldn't start. I eventually got it started by cranking the starter for about 5-10 sec. I thought it was due to running it so low that maybe I actually was running on fumes.
