Default Fuse question....

Sorry for not searching first, but I'm sorta rushed. My Touareg flashlight keeps blowing the 15amp fuse for the cigarette outlet. My lighter wasn't working so I checked the fuse, and sure enough it was shot, so I put a new fuse in there and the lighter worked fine, then as soon as I put my Touareg flashlight in there the fuse blew.

Basically what I'm asking is - can I put a 20, or 25 amp fuse in place of the 15 amp one without hurting anything. I know this isn't probably a good idea so I'm up for suggestions.

Default I wouldn't think you would have a problem running a larger fuse.

Just be sure it's not over the rating for the flashlight. That's why I asked. You could cook the flashlight before the fuse pops.

Default It's a dedicated fuse too, nothing else is attached to that one except the cigarette lighter...

Which makes me feel better about putting a bigger fuse in it. like I can only screw up one thing

Default You likely are shorting something out momentarily with this dopey flashlight

I have a similar problem occasionally with a little low current draw digital voltmeter that plugs into a cigarette lighter. Fuse would blow as soon as I popped the plug into the lighter socket.

If it is blowing as soon as you plug it in and the flashlight switch is off, I'd say stop trying to use it before you burn out a wire internal to the car.
