...tech article or install pics? Looks pretty straight forward, but any tips or warnings during install would be helpful. Thanks.

Default First, make sure you order new pump with METAL gasket, then...

make sure you order maybe 1 or 2 gallons of new G12.
Unless you capture the old G12 and use pantyhose as sift
before pouring back in... up to you. I usually just reuse
and have extra G12 on hand just in case.

You may also want to replace your thermostat at this time.
I like wahler thermostats, behr is OK.

Good instructions found here:
http://www.passatworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=166611

It applies to both A4 & Passat, I've done both on my A4 & Passat. Identical.

Good luck,

Colin

Default Metal waterpump gasket? Never seen one of those. One thing to make certain though..

that the new pump has a metal (instead of plastic) impeller. the plastic ones are junk, break, fall off, and generally just suck.

Default True, although I don't even think they still make the plastic impellers do they?

Yeah, I'll try to look around for a link for the metal gasket, I've heard they do exist though.

Default Welcome! You'll have your hands full.. one last thing though...

When you go to reinstall the thermostat there's a rubber o-ring
gasket that wants to fall off onto your face before you can get the housing on.

Put a dab or two of RTV on the gasket, thermostat, let dry and then instal. This will keep it from falling on you... torque bolts to 10 ft. lbs

Default Listen to these guys, I went thru the same thing, buy the OEM waterpump gasket

It's metal with rubber. I have tried over and over again. To use the cheap paper gasket with honda bond. Because I didn't want to leave my car down waiting on parts. Did it twice, gasket didn't last longer than 25k, before it leaked.

Even when I do use the OEM gasket, I still use honda bond, good ****.
