fwd center cap question for new rim, help please!

i know most of you have quattro,
but, i have 2001 fwd (i got it with european delivered)
anyway, i have 18" rim now which rear canter cap for the rim is not fitting over those grease box? or i dont' know what to call,
do i have to keep it that way? or any sugesstion?
i don't think i can take those grease cap out so, any input will be helpful Thank you very much always.. for your helps

He's thinking of painting that grease cap silver, to better match his rims.
Only thing I could think, would be to modify it so the center cap would fit? Either modify the grease cap for the wheel bearing, and/or modify the center cap for the wheel.
