TDI is the only way to go.

Remember, its somewhat difficult to compare or stipulate that both countries represent same or like markets with similar demand structures. They don't even have the same financially structured market base behind each other. Europeans have multiple choices for public transit and emploment that is suited towards that(partially due to density rates).
No matter the location or country, people should be able to prompt critical and provide analytical discussion to improve structures, institutions, and markets.
The development for any type of energy or transportation policy here has been short sighted or non-existant to say the least. In fact, the government promoted very inefficient vehicles for a number of years. Most of the average American families can not with stand financial policy 180's and generally don't understand the long term financial or causal effects that lie ahead when they are passed.
Personally, I prefer not to drive. One postive outcome of the some of the outcry, will probably be the availability of more TDi's. Please don't take this as a rant, disagreement, just a comment. ; )

Default i disagree

with "a comment" other than that its all good.

this was mainly for the motorcycle board that was blowing up with people complaining about fuel prices.

How can those guys complain, no insurance requirements, virtually no regs on the development & cycles, and they get 60mpg(or there abouts). We're lucky to see 12 or 13mpg on the 4runner. They think its bad now, just wait in a year or two when we'll see $5 and $6 a gallon gas along with high unemployment rates.

Default Just a comment to not assume that all of Europe has excellent and easily accessible

public transport...Many parts of Europe are just as bad as parts of the US for public transportation. Unless one lives in a major city then it is just not available, and even if it is it will just be a bus with multiple stops...

Here is hoping that we will see much more efficient and smaller engines here in the US, and especially diesel engines along with increased refinery output to meet the demand...

I'm just so disappointed with Audi for missing a potential leading position to introduce diesel power here in the US. Merc and BMW are beating them to the punch...

Agreed. On a whole though, a majority there have an overall better choice of transportation options with more efficient living arrangements associated with work. Not to say its better, just different and suited towards the environment there, more of a long-term developmental approach.
I hope we see more refining capacity here along with smaller diesel cars and motorcycles. Not going to hold my breath though.
Audi though, like BMW is probably heavily consumed with what they are going to do with the huge fleets of vehicles they own with large residuals that are coming back to haunt them in the coming months. Agreed, they could hav really taken a big position in the market and brought in a more full line of TDi's in their cars. A 2.0 TDi A4 sedan or Avant(with quattro) would probably be a larger seller here.
