Default Gas leak

Once when I filled up with gas, some liquid (I'm assuming it was fuel) dripped out from under the gas tank...but it's never happened since then (it happened about three weeks ago). Should I take my car in for service?

Default happens to me all the time when i try to top-off my tank....

there's an overfill hole that drains any overfill gas or spillage and leaves a nice puddle right by your tire. it reminds me of Dumb & Dumber when one of the guys was filling up his dog-van at the gas station and wasn't paying attention and overfilled his tank.

Default And this is totally normal?!

I do remember the gas only leaking out near the end, but it wasn't like I was topping it off or anything. Just doing a normal filling until the gas nozzle "clicked" and stopped.

maybe the gas nozzle wasn't pushed in all the way.

That would cause a leak from the underside of the car?

Default well, if the gas you're pumping goes straight into that overfill hole "q_synchro" was talking about.

I'm assuming that overfill hole is located just above the main gas filling hole, so if the nozzle is not fully submerged in that filling hole, it is possible that some of the gas is pouring through the overfill hole.

whew, that's a lot of "holes"

Default Ah, that makes sense then (that would explain why it only happened that one time)...

...kind of a messy way to prevent overfilling though, don't you think?

still better than having the overfilled gas come out on the outside (on your paint job). ;=)
