Gas leak

I had the same problem arise last summer...it was a bad seal in the filler-neck of the gas tank. Before repairing it, out of 5 fillings, it only leaked twice...it only leaks for certain pumps that fil to a higher point...and its not very much gas.
But it is a bit dangerous, its not normal, and you should get it fixed.

It's possible the pump was defective and didnt' shut off in time. If there is a little overflow, it will drain just below the filler neck (look inside the gas flap for some drain holes. Those drains will empty out under the car, behind your bumpers/fenders. That may be what happened.
