Gas Mileage on your V6 A4?
I recently bought a used 2000 Audi A4 with the 2.8 litre V6 engine. One thing I noticed is the poor gas mileage I am getting. I am not driving this car hard at all and it seems I am getting like 16-17 mpg and my trip computer says I am getting 19.1??? I'd think I would get 20 mpg combined but it doesn't seem that way. My RPM's do seem a bit to high. For example, when traveling 60mph, my RPM is about 2750 in fifth gear.
My last car was a 2000 Nissan Sentra SE 2.0 and that car got 25-30 mpg. At 60mph that had an RPM of about 2850 in fifth gear.
Does this gas mileage and RPM seem normal to you V6 drivers?

I have the A4 V6 2.8 and I've averaged 21.4 over the last year with lowest at 18.2 and highest at 25.7 (I was really surprised at the high). I keep track every time I fill up and keep an excel spreadsheet to track the performance.

If the RPMs are wrong the cluster could be coded for a 4 cylinder car.

My V6 automatic usually averages between 23 and 26. The majority of my driving is freeway at 70 - 80 mph. You might need new pre-cat oxygen sensors, also keep that tire pressure up.

have a quattro, 2.8 and stick, get about low of 19 and a
high of 27-28 with cruise and long highway stints. Yes, she's babied but every now and then she's tracked too. I prefer driving this over my B5 S4 specifically for the better gas mileage.

Wow you guys are getting great gas mileage.
I just bought a new set of tires since my old Kumho Ecsta AST's were nearly bald.
I bought the Kumho Ecsta ASX 225/40R18. Hopefully these will improve mpg.
One thing that concerns me is that the LCD display on the dash has missing lines and makes reading the calculated mpg hard. Right now its at either 19.2 or 14.2 mpg. The top line is missing.
Like I said, I calculated my car getting 17-17.5 mpg. I can't do much on it until spring.
