Gear, Transaxle, Diff fluid confusion
I want to change the fluids in the tranny since I have 65K miles and no more warranty. After searching the forums I have managed to confuse myself on what is what. I know there is fluid in the back and fluid near the front. I believe transaxle fluid is for the syncro near the front and differential is in the rear. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Can someone please tell me what the PROPER types of fluid are and where they go. I'm obviously not a mechanic but I believe I am capable of doing this with the right information. Thanks for your help.

Re: Gear, Transaxle, Diff fluid confusion
If you have an Auto trans , then the rear diff takes p/# G 052 145 S2. If your car has the std 5 gearbox, then the gearbox and diff take P/# G 005 000.

You'll want to be certain you can pull the filler plug BEFORE pulling the drain plug. Manual trans
uses a 75w-90 synth gear oil as does the rear differential. Due to having brass syncros, however, you don't want to use a gl-5 fluid in teh tranny .. use a gl-4 in the tranny and a gl-5 in teh rear diff. I use NEO in both but folks also report good results with Redline (MT90 in the tranny and 75w-90 in the diff)
