B5S4_Oz

The car has turned 5 years old (Dec 2000 A4TQM B5) and done 70k miles, so I thought I'd treat it to a gearbox and rear diff oil change. There is no other reason for the change.

After checking the B5 forum, I was totally confused about what I should use in the gearbox with so many conflicing posts about what works and what doesn't, what to use and what not to use.

I called the local Audi dealer and other than the OEM fluid, they recommended something called Castrol Syntrax 75W90 for both the gearbox and rear diff, he said it was a GL4/5 fluid and ok for both.

I went to the local parts place this morning and the bottle says it's a GL5. So, it should be ok in the rear diff but should I use this stuff in the gearbox? It's not cheap either at $US25 /quart and I am going to need 5 quarts.

I am in Brisbane Australia where it never gets cold, a bit like California.

Any advice would be appreciated.
