the TCU will fuss and fight about it even if the wires are "solid". It is SOOOoooooo sensitive and any additional resistance will freak it out, he will need to replace the harness back to good shiny solid copper, no question.
My STRONG suggestion to ANYONE with a auto/tip is to pull that friggen TCU/box out of there and mount it under the dash by the heater/glovebox. The floor is THE STUPIDEST place to put that EVAR!! Audi seriously had their heads WAY up their **** on that one.

You do have to be SURE the TCU is the EXACT same part number and that the harness is from the same car as there were changes over the years and even in the same model year.

The harness is a pain to get at (see my other post on it) but it's worth doing. Let me know if you have any questions on it.
