Getting ready to replace my water pump seal that is leaking, should I
replace my water pump too? I'm not having a problem with the pump yet and do not know how old it is. I have a 96 A4 with 170K. Also, any recommendations on other atypical parts that I should consider replacing?
Thanks.
Thanks.

AH, good info. I went to an auto place today and they said that the seal was $7.60. The previous..
owner said the timing belt had been replaced 10K miles ago so I'm teetering on whether I'll do that or not. I'll need to search and find out what the average 2.8 timing belt life span is.
Thanks for the help.

They might be thinking of the gasket between the pump and the block.
which is different from the seal.
For the timing belt, at 10k I'd probably let it go if you can verify that the t-stat, roller and tensioner were changed. (sounds like maybe the pump wasn't?) Regardless, you'll need the timing belt tools and you'll want to reset cam timing.

Well, the water pump went out on my 4.2. Might as well do the timing belt. Anything else to replace?
