pretty happy with how it came out. Interestingly, the semi-matte texture is honestly unintentional. I was going for a gloss finish to match the paint, but I had the air-to-paint mixture wrong on the paint gun, so I ended up with a texture that was luckily nearly identical to the plastic of the grill.
Maybe I'm just talking myself into it, but I think I actually like it better than some of the other pics of this I've seen of it glossy.
brief sequence of events....
1. remove grill from car, remove chrome surround piece (duh)
2. used a dry 400 grit sandpaper to scuff up the foam
3. washed thouroughly, let dry
4. three coats of laquer-based primer
5. 600 grit wet-sand
6. washed thouroughly, let dry
7. three coats laquer-based black paint
8. four coats of laquer-based clear coat
Clear corners next.....ain't free mods fun? =)

well it's not really flat black...more of a semi-gloss...the paint came out with too much texture...
I'm really happy it did though. Very happy with how it looks. Kinda unique.
