GIAC CHIP IS NOT GOOD FOR YOUR CAR!!!!!!!! READ
I have had my GIAC chip in my car for 1 year in a half. All of the sudden my check MIL indicator light kept comming on. I took it to two dealerships and it turns out the chip fried my ecu. It isnt under warrenty eaither and it costs $1,200 to replace. I would think again about getting a chip, they arnt as safe as they sound!!!!

The beauty of having a spare ECU.
I'm confused though.. they charge $1200 for a stock ECU, or are you calculating the price of a new ECU + re-chipping?
Also, how do you know the chip fried the ECU? Sounds kind of fishy to me, like something a dealership might tell a customer in a "See! Told you so" kind of way.

Re: The beauty of having a spare ECU.
No that is what they charge for a new ecu. And the chip is the only possible way to fry this ecu. The car was overboosting so it had to be the chip. I would just be carful

Sheesh...
Do you think maybe the fact that the huge majority of GIAC owners haven't had any problems with their chips carries more weight than your bad experience? And it sounds kind of odd to me that it would "fry your ECU" after a year and a half.
I understand that you're pissed, but "GIAC CHIP IS NOT GOOD FOR YOUR CAR!!!!!!!!" is a bit alarmist under the circumstances.

ROFLMAO! sorry, the chip causing excessive boost would not fry the ecu. First calm down, and listen
The ECU can be fried by several things. Power surge from the electrical system, spark making contact with the ecu unit itself(static electricity), the ECU can be damaged as a result of soldering(during chipping) but that would occur at the time of the install. Your problem most likely isn't a problem. You should have had a friend try/test the ecu for you. Your Dealership just jacked you for 1200 bucks.

Couple things
1. like other people have mentioned already, you got ripped on the price of your new ECU.
2. You relied on your dealer to give you correct info. Like most dealers they will blame what they don't know.
3. I bet there is some other root cause.
Do you still have the old ECU?? If you bought your GIAC chip new, send the entire ECU back to them, I am positve they would tell you exactly what happend and fix it if it's their problem.
