Default GIAC chip octance question

If you have your chip programmed with the 93 octane fuel maps, what effect does it have to use at certain times 91 or 94 even. Also if I were to mix between 91 and 93 (alternating), would that be ok?

Default I would stick with 93 if it said 93. higher would be ok, but not lower.

Remember always unleaded.

Default Lower octane fuel may ping on a higher octane chip...

higher octane will be fine, 94 might be a little smoother than 93, my car liked it.

For the occasional use of 91 octane, id just avoid WOT and drive gently. Remember the knock sensors pull back timing to prevent detonation, so your engine protects itself at the cost of lower power.

If 93 is available, run it all the time, it best for the engine, and it is what your chip is profiled to run.

Cheers,
Sameer

Default I purchased an ecu from California with a giac....

and ran it for a long time with 94 octane Sunoco that is available in Ohio. I thought it ran great.I sent it to AWE for program update and told them I run 94 octane. There was a noticable difference in the feel; power came on a lot smoother and the rev limiter was gone. I did not notice any difference in performance level. I am sure it was originally programmed for 91 or 92 octane and the rev limiter was still on when I acquired it. MY 00 1.8TM Avant.

Default The GIAC programming still retains a rev limiter.

This is to make sure that you do not damage your transmission. The rev limiter however has been raised to +/-7000 rpm, whereas stock is 6500 rpm. Hope this helps you.
