Default If we did the labor for free, we would be unable to pay the person that removes the socket and

installs the flash chip. Once the car is converted to flash, all updates ARE free. But, you have to pay the bills.

We have never charged for updates, this is a unique situation as there is labor involved to perform the update.

Default how many different chips do you have?

There are two options, the first is our handheld flashloader which MSRPs for $150.00. The second is a downloadable switcher that you can download. This one will work for your 2000, we have a new one that will be uploaded for the nDBW cars: Switching Options Page

Default program options are additional (MSRP pricing inside)

100 OCT MSRP: $100.00
VALET MSRP: $50.00
STOCK MSRP: $50.00
KILL MSRP: $50.00

If you upgrade to a K04 (or possibly larger), these programs will stay with you.

Default so, $100 for 10 minutes worth of work? this isn't brain surgery. You're over-charging, imo.

Unique or not, the current GIAC owner is paying more than a new GIAC owner and that's just not fair. plain and simple.

and, yes, I understand that R&D takes a lot of time and money, and paying a tech to swap the hardware, but, $100?

How about this... if anyone buys more than just their performance chip to swap to flash, then the install is free. For example, if someone buys the 100 octane program along with the flasher, then their labor is free.

Default 10 minutes to desolder and swap a flash chip? If you can do this perfectly in 10 minutes

I would love to see it. We could spend 10 minutes doing this process, but the bottom line is that the lack of Q.C. would be through the roof and we would be receiving complaints for dead ECUs due to "cheap" work.

This is the first complaint we have had regarding price. In fact, most consider it fair.

Default i dont think its a complaint.

its a customer speaking with some good points.

sounds like me and chris have the same idea of dumping the encryption board, getting flashed and then getting some new options along with the flash.

Default The bottom line is: old customers are paying $100 more than current customers to get the same thing

period.

$1 is too much.

APR didn't charge me/us when I had software/hardware swapped from one ECU to another ECU to go from a '00 car to a '01.5 car so that the '00 car could go back to a stock turbo with a chip and the '01.5 car could go to stage 3 software. '00 had the stage 3 software on it and the '01.5 had the K03 software on it.

IMO, that's how GIAC should handle it. You're not giving the customer anything new, unless they buy another type of chip to actually switch to and the programmer. So, you're getting money (profit) when that happens. Should be enough, eh? I guess not.

So, how long does it take fir a professional job to be done? Does it really cost GIAC $100 to pay that person? Is it a 30-minute job? so, $200/hr for labor? Audi/Porsche labor rates at the dealer aren't that high.

And, it definitely should be waived at places like WaterFest, H20 and the like. The customer is already going out of his/her way to track you down to hand you his/her ecu and not having to pay for shipping on GIAC's distributor end, and he/she had to pay an entry fee to get to a GIAC distributor.

Hey, it's your company with your choice to charge the customer and it's the customer's choice to pay it, but I think it should be free when the customer isn't getting anything for it.

Default So QC is a big deal to you guys?

I don't see why, since you do not repair faulty solder connections at no charge.
