is it a good idea to put an intake on a 1.8T? any reasons not to?

Default everyones going to say no, but ...

I just put on a HKS intake that a local shop hooked me up with for $70 and i like it alot. I actually think i felt a performance increase(maybe i'm just imagining it though). And it does make a really cool sound. I would just make one tho, as even though i seem to got it for cheap it was probably still a rip off as it looked like it could have been made at home for pretty cheap.

Default that the stock airbox is more than sufficient

And an intake system is just going to heat up the turbo, or something to that effect.

Default The intake doesn't heat up the turbo. Vice versa. The turbo is REALLY hot..

and especialy with your HKS intake, the air that it sucks is superheated air that is right nest to the turbo. So you're sucking hot air into your engine and robbing power.

I guarantee you 100% that any "gains" you felt are simply the placebo effect. You may spool a bit quicker, but you're down on power.

Default Put a body kit on 4 the looks, why not put a cone on for the sounds

Don't know if I have any performance gains, but you get that vacuum sound and you can hear your BPV amplified

Default If you like the sound and don't care that it will rob power, go ahead.

Otherwise pass - it will suck hot air unless you do elaborate custom ducting and sealing.
