My current setup costed me about $900. 2 Polk Momo MM 10's for ~$450, MTX 6500D for ~$300, $100 for some good cables, and tax... Also took me about 4 hours to install because it was a BIOTCH to get the 2 gauge cable through from the battery into the cabin...

I'm not sure if you can do it for $250 but close to that.
I did a budget sound upgrade and it sounds incredible, better sound than I expected. If you wanna go my route this is what you should get:
Get 2 12" Blaupunkt subs for 85.55 + 35 shipping off ebay (click the link)
Then get a 600W apm from a Kenwood outlet store for about 120. Here is where you gan find a Kenwood outlet store:

Get a enclosed sub box for about 50 + 20 shipping off ebay or some place else if you can get it cheaper.
Get decent 8 gauge wiring kit for about 30.
And yes you will be able to wire it to your stock unit just fine. (I wired it to my concert unit with no problems)
You dont have to spend a lot of money to get a great sounding system. The total would be 340.55, about 90 over what you have, but you won't be dissapointed. Do the install yourself, if you need help email me. Hope this helps you and others.

Blaupunkt subs

you will end up upgrading anyways, so might as well do it right the first time and save some money in the long run.

That's not to say you should spend a mint either. Go to an audio shop or two (not Best Buy, and not Circuit City) and listen to what you think is nice. Take notes. Then start saving, and buy from places like etronics.com, onlinecarstereo.com, or a good, reputable local shop. I found a local shop that is actually cheaper than the online warehouses, with great customer service.
Do the install yourself or with some friends, and you'll save a ton. When I originally went to a shop, I was quoted $3400 installed. So far I've spent about $1200, have about $300 left to spend, and i've fabricated or made due with what my abilities are - I'll have saved almost $2000 and I've got way better components than I had been quoted. And I'll have the satisfaction of doing it myself.
Trust me (and everyone else) on this - save save save, and get something you really like. Good luck!
