Got about 60k on my K&N, so it's time for a good cleaning. What do you think about WD-40...

Default i'd say no on the WD-40....

the oil they use dries to be non-tacky. i don't think WD will do this. the recharge kit is $10 and has enough oil for 20 or more recharges. although i use half the cleaner for one cleaning.

Default Wouldn't it be great if K&N came up with the correct chemical to clean and oil your filter?

Yeah, like if you could just buy the right stuff to do the job.

That would be great, wouldn't it?

Default I went out and bought a K&N recharge kit for ~ $16. I wont' be going back to OEM (stock)...

since I do Feel and See (boost gauge) a diffence with the K&N.

Anyway, if it is the placebo effect, it's worth what I spent on the recharge kit, for peace of mind.

Default a few tips on re-oiling the filter.....

i got a kit with a spray can of oil. i used only about 8 seconds of spray in two stages. apply oil only from the intake side of filter. watch out for oil trapped in the sealed area at the end of the pleats. let the filter dry completely. stand filter on end while drying rotating the filter every so often to insure total asbortion of the oil. i didn't reinstall my filter until 24 hrs after oiling.
